When a party encounters an enemy, certain Materia that has the ability to scan an enemy's stats can be done which allows you to check for enemy weaknesses and strengths, just remember that using an ability requires an ATB charge. Once the enemy has been scanned or if ever the party faces the same enemy again, players can check the information of the enemy by pressing the touchpad of the PS4 controller which opens up the enemy's information interface where you'll be able to see its background, dropped rewards, weaknesses/ailments, strengths, abilities, and more. Make it a habit to check enemy information when you encounter an enemy to asses and adapt easily to the battle situation you are in.
Staggering Enemies in FF7
To stagger an enemy, the party must attack the enemy constantly and knock it off-balance. A barrage of normal attacks work on some, while others require the use of special abilities and magic, some merely require a certain amount of damage. When knocked-off balance, their stagger gauge fills much faster. The word "Pressured" appears under an enemy's stagger gauge when it is knocked off balance. Once an enemy is staggered, they will be defenseless and take more damage, using unique skills on staggered foes will quickly boost your ATB gauge, allow you to unleash more abilities and spells.
