Strategy Writeup

Most of the fight is long-ranged, as Roche will mostly move ahead of you and shoot projectiles from a range. Be ready to dodge or block anything he throws at you and attack every time your charge is up.

After completing the first few waves of enemies in Chapter 4, Roche will blast past you on his own motorcycle and begin throwing his own long-range attacks at you, so dodge or block them and continue, peppering him with your own long-range attacks every time the charge is up.
While Roche is in melee range, there are several attacks to watch out for. His first attack is a series of sword slashes. These aren’t necessarily easy to dodge, given how quickly they come out, so try to block them with R1.
Roche also has an area-of-effect electrical attack. He’ll perform a nose wheelie on his motorcycle and, after a brief time, he’ll slam the back down on the ground, shooting electrical energy all around him. Although the charge is short, try to move away from him as soon as the nose wheelie starts and you’ll have enough time to clear the large blast zone.
Due to the cooldown timer on Cloud’s Spinning Slash ability, Roche is at his most obnoxious when he is keeping his distance. While Cloud may have a difficult time engaging at long-range, Roche has no such limitations.
The first ranged attack Roche will throw out is a rapid-fire energy wave attack, which functions much like Cloud’s Spinning Slash. Roche will alter the trajectory of his attack after each blast, meaning you’ll need to keep moving to avoid them. Move steadily in one direction away from the attacks, then juke in the opposite direction to dodge the final attack.
Roche’s other long-range attack is a charged blast. He winds up and, instead of throwing a series of rapid-fire attacks, he throws all the energy at Cloud at once. This individual blast is easy enough to dodge by veering hard left or hard right.

Once you’ve knocked Roche down to half health, he’ll gain a few new attacks, which involve charging his blade with energy.
During the melee charged attack, Roche will electrify his sword, then pull up beside Cloud and crouch atop his motorcycle. After a pause, he’ll leap in the air and perform a downward slashing attack.
The best way to avoid this is to use L2 to slow down or use R2 to speed up, because Roche won’t be able to change his speed once he’s locked into the attack.

For the ranged charged attack, Roche will electrify his sword and begin riding his motorcycle on the walls. He’ll then cause lightning to strike random points ahead of you on the road.
Weave in between them to avoid taking damage, and feel free to use L2 to slow down if you have trouble dodging these at full speed. As the attack ends, he’ll slam his motorcycle down on the center of the track, performing another AOE lighting attack, so be sure to stay towards the edges as he jumps off the wall.
Keep these things in mind and use your ranged attack at every opportunity and you’ll beat Roche in no time.

Attacks & Counters

Attack Counter
Phase 1
During this stage, Roche will mostly ride ahead, launching projectiles at you. Keep dodging them and throw your ranged attack whenever charged.
Eventually, he’ll come next to you and use melee attacks.  This is when the most damage can be dealt to him.
Block the sword slash as it is hard to didge, and whenever he performs a wheelie to use the EM field, just steer away from him to avoid as much damage as possible. Keep on the safe attacks to get him to 50% health.
Phase 2

This is where Roche will start to charge his blade with electricity and use the electric slash.
Roche will drive next to you and leap into the air to perform a drop slash.

It can be easily avoided by either speeding up or slowing down, as Roche cannot change his speed midair.
Second, Roche will drive on the wall and cause electricity to fall across your path. It is recommended that you slow down here to steer safely across. Attacking is the same in this phase also, so just time your attacks right.

Roche Lore

A 3-C SOLDIER operator who loves bikes, speed, and anyone capable of going toe-to-toe with him. He is ostracized by many in the organization, however, due to his antics and general disregard for anyone's safety.
