Because leaving an AP Materia directly on the ground would have cut down lenght of game, I guess

CONFIRMED. Just use two rubber bands to hold your left stick up and your right stick right. Cloud will run in a circle. Set the controller down and come back in about 25-30 mins.

Put your controller upside down and run into a wall. Walk away for an hour and ta da!
Just do all the side quests in Ch 14 without fast traveling. Easy peasy
