Summons in Final Fantasy 7 Remake are powerful summoned monsters or entities that are called in the battlefield to fight alongside their summoner, in order for a Summon to be called out, players will need to equip a summon materia. Summons are categorized as summon materia which is usually obtained through special events throughout the story such as, acquiring it as a reward from defeating bosses, secretly found in various locations, typically given by NPCs, or occasionally purchased from certain merchants. This page covers a list of all the Summons in the game.

Summon Materia

Similar to the original game, players equip a summoning materia in order to call out powerful entities that will aid the characters in battle. In the original, summons can be called in every single encounter with an enemy or boss in battle, in the remake, however, the summon materia resonates with the user over a period of time only when you are fighting bosses, certain powerful enemies, and when special conditions are met, a Summon materia can be equipped by all three active party members.

Summons Combat Mechanic

In the original game, a summon is called out and normally, delivers a single powerful blow against an enemy. However, in the remake, summons will fight alongside the player's party for a period of time. If certain conditions are met, eg. during a boss battle, the summon materia of the user will begin to resonate until the summon gauge is full, once it is full, players can use the "Summon" command to call out the entity within that materia. Upon calling a summon, it will fight alongside the party for a period of time, although you cannot take control of the summon, if the player's ATB gauge fills, they can use it to issue the summon to use one of its abilities. Now, once the summon meter has been depleted, the summoned entity/monster will execute its ultimate attack/ability before disappearing from the battlefield.

RNG based summoning worked for FF XV because they were such over the top battle enders, but in a 7 remake it's incredibly annoying. It's bad enough they censored Tifa, even worse that they messed with the plot, they should have let us summon at will.

Could use some improvement. If I have the power I want to use them. No just in boss battles, not if "certain conditions" are met. Always. That's what they are there for after all.
